Yogamorons!

Yogamorons!

Morons who detest yoga in the name of religion or for the reason that it being not `secular' do not understand that yoga is pure science. I wish they visit NIMHANS once and see how the mentally challenged are drawing benfits out of yoga. Serious disorders too when treated with yoga get amazing results. It is not just chanting a mantra or bending a body, it is a science of balancing vital elements of human mind-body.

For example, depression, a common suffering in the modern world sometimes turns chronic and one of the treatments administered to severe depression is ECT(Electro Convulsive Therapy), experience of which a normal humanbeing can never ever imagine. A mild electric current is passed through the brain by placing electrodes strategically to stimulate frontal lobe of the brain. It is done under general anaesthesia, leaves the patient in a dazed condition for sometime and headache a common side effect. However most of the patients recover from chronic depression after ECT; but recovery is temporary! Medication, counselling, follow ups are a must even after ECT. Yoga has an anwer to this. BRAMARI PRANYAM is a natural stimulator of frontal lobes of brain. Few relaxing asanas, Naadishudhi pranayam, bramarai pranayam and sheethali pranayam helps these depression patients. And I have seen patients from all religions and all walks of life simply following the instructions of the yoga research centre at NIMHANS. Morons who desist yoga can get their brains baked by electric current, but sensible humanbeings irrespective of any religion they follow at home, will practice yoga to keep themselves healthy.

Hats off to Dr. Gangadhar and his team for the patience and persistence which keeps the special yoga research centre running in the campus. Even ordinary, normal humanbeings have natural(political, idiotic, religious) resistance to learn yoga but here the instructors work hard with the patients who have mental disorders!

I salute all the yoga teachers around the world. They are shaping beautiful minds! :-)
